Engineers Propose Way to Send Bitcoin to Mars

Researchers Jose and Carlos Puente presented the concept of Proof-of-Transit Timestamping (PoTT), which allows sending Bitcoin from Earth to Mars in about three minutes.

Transactions will go through ground stations, satellites and lunar relays, receiving timestamps at each stage. PoTT is considered an additional level of confirmation of transfers in the Bitcoin network and the Lightning Network using optical channels NASA and Starlink.

The authors stated that the technology is ready for testing. At the first stage, they plan to simulate communication delays, and with full implementation, transfers will take from 3 to 22 minutes. They propose solving the problem of two-week eclipses with the help of relay satellites in orbit.
